Not quite true. MI (distro.conectiva.com.br/projetos) has a newt and
gtk
front end. Dam Genet has written another GTK front end, RH are writing
one

Yes, it's horrible.
I personally think it's stupid investing too much time in writing a
perfect front end, at this stage, because a good front end should
use a concept, known by many names (I'm calling it "operation queues"),
which isn't implemented in libparted yet.
This has big implications for how a UI would work.
