Question...end before start

This is more of a question than a bug report since I suspect the fault may be 
in my hard drive.

What is the meaning and cause of the following message:
Error: Can't have the end before the start!

Code is in /libparted/geom.c.

I cannot do parted /dev/hdd since I get the above error.
I can do parted /dev/hdd1 (partition) but I don't think that's the correct 
way to use parted.

I use v. 1.6.0.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
