Well, it's probably not a bug in parted, since parted doesn't
(in practice) have permission to reboot your machine.
Parted is probably tickling a bug in Linux. You probably have to
do a binary search through the code to find out where it's crashing.
If you don't know what that means, it will probably be a steep
learning curve to be able to do that... I don't mind doing it
myself, if you can give me ssh access, or I could guide you
step-by-step on IRC...
But, could you first try a newer 2.4 kernel?

That's a ppc machine? (Not that it makes much difference)
