Parted correctly identifies my root partition (minor 3) as ext3 format
Disk geometry for /dev/hda: 0.000-38154.375 megabytes
Disk label type: msdos
Minor Start End Type Filesystem Flags
1 0.031 8158.007 primary fat32 boot, lba
2 8158.008 8259.982 primary ext3
3 8259.983 37197.377 primary ext3
4 37197.378 38154.375 extended lba
5 37197.409 38154.375 logical linux-swap
But when I use the resize command it think it's dealing with ext2
(parted) resize 3 8259.983 25000
Warning: Filesystem was not cleanly unmounted! You should e2fsck.
Ignore/Cancel? i
No Implementation: This ext2 filesystem has a rather strange layout!
Parted
can't resize this (yet).
This is version GNU Parted 1.6.3, as distributed with Fedora Core 1.0.
