Ok, but this is really beside the point her, i think. The main point is that
it seems parted in some circunstances adds a \0 in the middle (or rather at
the start) of the string bing produced for outputing the partitions.

I am not sure. We really only need to get back the system type of a partition,
and that can easily be done with a trivial libparted program. We already use
libparted in debian directly to do the partitioning for example.

Having a script language for parted's frontend may be a nice idea though, it
would waste more ram though, and be more bug-prone, so ...
