Hello,

I've been trying to use version 5.7 of the win32 build of RCS, as downloaded
at http://www.cs.purdue.edu/homes/trinkle/RCS/
<http://www.cs.purdue.edu/homes/trinkle/RCS/> . I'm working on Windows NT
and 2000 boxes, and have been experiencing problems with files becoming
corrupted when they are committed via a "ci -l <filename>" command.
Essentially what ends up the RCS log has sections of the file missing -
sometimes just part of a line, but more often whole sections of the
document.

The problem is repeatable, in that it keeps happening with the same file,
but not consistent in that it happens to different sections of the file. So
I can't deduce if it is a particular character or formatting in the file
that is causing the problem.

The file I've been using is quite a long file (several 1000 lines),
containing structured text in the form "label: value" and several numeric
and symbolic ([,{) characters.

An example of what is happening is given below:

Original file section
----------------------
        Event Log Base Name: DEM
        Event Log Extension: .TXT
        Watchdog Read Value: 0
        Watchdog Write Value: 0

File section as stored in RCS
-----------------------------
        Event Log Base Name: DEM
Event Log Watchdog Read Value: 0
        Watchdog Write Value: 0

In this case, the second and third lines have been "merged" together.

I've used RCS with these sorts of files on UNIX for years with no
difficulties - is this a bug with the Windows version? Is there another
version of the distribution I could try?

Kind regards,
Megan Boardman
