No, because they are different programs, in both goals
and target systems.

Checkinstall is a GNU/Linux only project that produces
distribution-specific packages.
Sourceinstall is a UNIX project (at least by design, I
still have to find help to do some testing on other
Unix systems) that uses only the source.
