Follow-up Comment #1:
I am working on a fix for the unhelpful error messages.
Both interfaces will now properly detect the ERR_BUSY return value
(that means a package with the same name is already in) and spit out
something meaningful.
The main issue (making update work using the same/default package name),
expecially useful for cvs/svn directories derives from the new implementation
of update, which is much safer now, but with the unpleasant surprise that it
has become less flexible.
I will think this through and report back.
