Hello,
I've been trying to search an answer to this from everywhere but haven't found
any good ones...
I've got an serious problem while extracting an 35 gig backup, the harddrive
the file resides developed a bad sectore at about the 13 gig mark and now that
I really need to restore the file, tar exits with:
tar: ./www/data/filenamehere: Cannot open: File exists
tar: /local3/backup/kala.tar: Cannot read: Input/output error
tar: /local3/backup/kala.tar: Cannot read: Input/output error
...
tar: Too many errors, quitting
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
and cannot continue
At the same time, system reports "Sep 4 08:58:14 abc kernel: ad6: FAILURE -
READ_DMA status=51<READY,DSC,ERROR> error=40<UNCORRECTABLE> LBA=15368405"
(freebsd5.2.1) which means, there's a bad block or something equally evil.
Is there any possibility that I could recover the files after the bad block(s)?
I don't care if I lose a couple of files, I know which directory they are and
they can be reproduced but the next 22 gigs I'd like to restore.
