Hi

I have been trying to 'tar c -S' a(n apparently) large (16G) sparse file, whose actual disk size is about 800Mb.

This is on Linux, Fedora Core 3, kernel 2.6.10. Tar (GNU tar) 1.14.

When untaring (tar x') the result, the sparse file is mangled and very small.

If I don't use -S (i.e. plain 'tar c'), I can untar the result fine, although the tar file is then, of course, 16Gb!

tar c -S works fine for a 2Gb sparse file, so the break point is somewhere between 2Gb and 16Gb.

Thanks and regards
Roland

p.s. Forgot to mention tar version in previous almost identical report. Sorry!
