Just tried to upgrade tar to the latest but it failed:

> uname -a 
SunOS cns-build3 5.6 Generic_105181-39 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-250 Solaris

> gcc -v
Using built-in specs.

Configured with: ../gcc-4.2.1/configure

           --disable-nls
           --with-libiconv-prefix=/auto/insbu-cnstools/sunos56-sparc
Thread model: posix95
gcc version 4.2.1

Log attached.  Previously installed version 1.17 did not have this
issue.  Thanks.
