I wrote earlier today to comment that
I was not happy about no longer being able to
use the construct:
tar cvpf- * | (cd $dest ; tar xpf- )
I downloaded the source to look at reverting
to the previous behaviour. But the README told
me that the current 1.23 version defaults to
stdin/stdout. It still changes the command line
which more or less violates the rule of "least
surprise", but I can live with it.
One of the disadvantages of installing from binary
packages is that a lot of the documentation goes
astray.

Thanks for your work on this and other useful
tools. Even if there are are philosophical
differences about how some details should work,
there is genuine appreciation on my part.
