So I got myself into a case where I don't care whether or not the directory 
contents changed after the directory
was enumerated, and I don't care either if a file that I was going to collect 
no longer exists [the second
logically follows from the first. It would still be consistent if it deleted 
before enum rather than after].

Unfortunately, erroring outright was causing my unattended auto-script to fail. 
Due to runtimes
(multi-gigabyte copies), trying to get a clean run was an exercise in 
frustration.

Patch compressed to keep my mail client from munging it.

Incidentally, I had to comment out the single function in gnu/fpending.c to get 
tar to build on my machine.
