I'll make the point again.  Raise the issue with the POSIX authors.
Both the perceived lack of clarity and how btrfs and others may have
deviated from historic norm due to modern methods of implementing so
perhaps POSIX needs to shift too.  Have those learned fellows cogitate
on it.  Then it won't just be Jörg wearing his sometimes-POSIX hat on
that's speaking authoritatively.

Even if they don't resolve it in time for the current changes to tar, it
will help all those implementers in future.
