Actually I only saw that afterwards, and then couldn't tell if it was
quite related.  (Nosing around I couldn't see where add_char extended
the output buffer, so I wondered if my input had tickled a multiple of a
buffer size or something.)

Incidentally, what I said about 4.8 being ok wasn't 100% true.  The
@images I used, commented out in what I posted, run into your 2007-03-18
cm_image filename malloc fix.  (But the workaround is simple enough,
don't use the filename extension arg in info mode.)

Blame it on glibc.  If you ask for 16 bytes it should give you a few
more at no extra charge for being a good customer.  :-)
