Error: texi2dvi texinfo.info

Dear Texinfo team:

texi2dvi should take an input file in info format and output a dvi file, shouldn't it?

When I do the following:
texi2dvi texinfo.info

It outputs error:
texi2dvi: pdfetex exited with bad status, quitting.
The file texinof.info is taken from

@texi2dvi (GNU Texinfo 6.5) 7906

Could you give a hint why this happened?
