15 For I indeed desire to suffer, but I cannot tell whether I amworthy so to
do. 2 For should I speak farther ofthe things that now are, and ofthose that
are to come, you wouldnot yet understand them, seeingthey lie in parables. 6
Not that I know there is anything of this nature among you;but I fore-arm you,
as beinggreatly beloved by me, foreseeingthe snares of the devil. 13 But learn
therefore howthe Lord speaketh, rendering thetemple vain: Who has measured
theheaven with a span, and the earthwith his hand? Is it not I? Thuswith the
Lord, Heaven is mythrone, and the earth is myfootstool.
As for those whichare
come from Syria, and are gonebefore me to Rome, to the gloryof God, I suppose
you are notignorant of them.
6 And why are we not allwise, seeing we have
receivedthe knowledge of God, which isJesus Christ? Why do we sufferourselves
foolishly to perish;not considering the gift whichthe Lord has truly sent to
us?7 Let my life be sacrificedfor the doctrine of the cross;which is indeed a
scandal to theunbelievers, but to us is salvationand life eternal. For what
does aman profit me, if he shall praiseme, and blaspheme my Lord; notconfessing
that he was truly mademan?10 Now he that doth not saythis, does in effect deny
him,and is in death. 10 What then saith the Scriptureof Abraham, when I be
believed, and it was imputed unto him forrighteousness? Behold I have madethee a
father of the nations, which without circumcision believein the Lord.
7
Wherefore putting on meekness, renew yourselves in faith, which is the flesh of
the Lord;and in charity, which is the bloodof Jesus Christ.
20 For so it is
written that thefather commanded him by deliveringus from darkness, to prepare
untohimself a holy people. But theyaccording to the desires of theflesh,
understood him as if hehad only meant it of meats.
7 And again he saith in
anotherprophet: He that does thesethings; I shall be like a treeplanted by
the currents of water, which shall give its fruit in itsseason.
3 And
especially when I commendyou, I know that ye are ashamed,as it is written, The
just mancondemneth himself. Reach not outthine hand to receive, andwithhold it
not when thoushouldest give.
I received, therefore,in the name of God, your
wholemultitude in Onesimus;5 Who by: inexpressible love isours, but according
to the fleshis our bishop; whom I beseech you, pray Jesus Christ, to love: and
thatyou would all strive to be like untohim. 17 And in this he spake
well, having respect to the commandment. 26 I salute Alce my
well-beloved,together with the incomparableDaphnus, and Eutechnus, and allby
name. I have, therefore, need of moderation; by which theprince of this world
is destroyed. Forthe scripture saith; And it shallcome to pass in the last
days, thatthe Lord will deliver up the sheepof his pasture, and their fold,
andtheir tower unto destruction.
21 He that possesses the wordof Jesus, is
truly able to bear hisvery silence. Let Jesus Christ only overseeit, and your
charity.
10 As some call indeed theirgovernor, bishop; but yet do allthings
without him. 11 But I can never thinkthat such as these have a goodconscience,
seeing that they arenot gathered together thoroughlyaccording to God's
commandment.
