vc-dwim is not a piece of software that implements version control.
What it does is abstract the different APIs of a number of version
control software packages under one hood, for a few special things
that it offers.  In this way, it can make use of git, or of SVN or
others.

I have no idea whether it would be useful within an IDE, but hey,
you can find that out for yourself.  Here's the vc-dwim homepage
