well, could you provide me with the first ~300 2k blocks of those failing
disk images?

just do a

dd if=/dev/cdrom of=vcd.iso bs=2k count=300

if it doesn't reach the full 300 blocks due to I/O errors it's ok, at
minimum I need the first 75 2k blocks of those cds...
