They are played 4:3, distorted and unclipped.  For reference, the players
that I have played them on are a Philips DV711 and a Pioneer DVD333, both
set for 4:3 letterbox (and they do for DVD, which I believe is flaged in 
the same manner), and both reported to play 16:9 SVCD letterboxed.

Hmm, I kind of thought that... but it obviously isn't reading it from the
stream.  My first thought was that there might be some needed information
missing in the descriptions in the first track.  


It could also be that mplex screws up somewhere in writing the system
stream, and the software players intelligently read around the screw-up,
but I looked at mplex source and don't think this is happening, nor do I
know how it could happen since the aspect is contained in the sequence
header, which mplex just copies.
