Possible solutions:
1) Install fairymax, so xboard can use it. (I have no openSuSE, so I would not know how to do that there. On Ubuntu I would just do "sudo apt-get install fairymax".)
2) Start xboard with the command "xboard -ncp" so that it will not try to startup any Chess engine at all. (e.g. for viewing PGN files.)
3) Install another XBoard-compatible Chess engine (e.g. crafty) and start xboard with the command "xboard -fcp crafty".
4) Install polyglot and a UCI engine (e.g. toga2) and start xboard with the command "xboard -fcp toga2 -fUCI".
It all depends on what you want to use XBoard for...

Hello dear Tim,

I want to install xboard on openSuSE 11.2 but somehow it fails both
as -.tar.gz file and as -.rpm file, because xboard is asking for
fairymax at localhost.

What should I do step by step from beginning to end ???

At google there is no entry, what to do under openSuSE 11.2

Sorry, I dont want to get on your nerves. Please be patient with me. LOL.
:)

Thank you for your reponse.
Happy Hacking.
Val.
