Sorry, I failed to reply-to-all with the following:

That bug report should quit recurring with 4.6.0 when my fixes to the internationalization code get released.

However, we may instead get complaints that the menus look ugly -- because the user didn't have Helvetica installed and xboard fell back to "fixed". Sigh.

Since this seems to be a common problem, how about adding a more verbose
error message, e.g. "Possible solution: change font to a know font in
xboard.conf or install missing font (needs update of X-server font
cache). BTW: This is not a bug :)"
