Here is the 2.1.3 step (I changed the '5' to a '10'):

Can you try to alter the replay slightly to this:
cnee --replay -f example2.xnr --time 10 -fcr
note the "-fcp"
--force-core-replay,-fcr
Discard record X Input device data, use recorded core device data)
