The exact last words of growisofs would be very interesting.

I'm in a more luxury hardware situation than Frantisek Kluknavsky
of Fedora. I only lack media. (BD-RE TL, BD-R TL/QL)

78.85 GB of a total of 100 GB doesn't look like a layer border,
at least.

My first question would be: Is the burner attached via USB-3 ?

Some Linuxes produce timeouts with long running SCSI commands
via USB-3. (It is said to be related to the power supply feature
of the USB-3 sockets.)
If the burn run hit a bad/questionable spot on the medium and the
drive then needs a long time to write to the Spare Area, a USB-3
timeout would produce either i/o error, power cycle message from
drive, or a silent glitch of writing. (In random order.)

If one only knew what the ":-[" message of growisofs said exactly.
The SK,ASC,ASCQ value or Linux errno could rule out or support
this theory. (SK=Bh would be a strong indication.)

Crossing fingers. :))

Please do before the experiments with the unused medium (assumed
your drive is at /dev/sr0):

  xorriso -outdev /dev/sr0 -toc -list_formats -list_speeds

and record the resulting messages. Just in case the medium does
not answer any more after the test.
