This line isn't processed in my build anyway, since I'm using NetBSD and
not Solaris.  And as noted, loading .so extensions dumps core at least
as far back as 1.17.  With MacOS X there's no core dump, but the dynamic
load basically fails (or succeeds only partially) with that garbage
identifier error.  Don't know about earlier versions since 1.22 was the
first to build cleanly for me under OS X.

This seems to be a separate issue from the compiler problems Sven and
Bruce reported.
