Thanks.  I'm a little concerned, though, about the fixnum declaration.
If you are going to compile the egg, there should be two compilations,
one with and one without (use numbers), so people who want bignums
as bits can use the same code for that purpose.

Can you make the necessary adjustments?  Thanks.
