[Chicken-users] Basic utf8 usage

I'm having trouble using the utf8 egg. I must be missing something very basic. Following the exact instructions in the egg's documentation I get the following:

$ csi -q
csi> (require-extension utf8)
csi> (import utf8)
Error: unbound variable: utf8

        Call history:

csi>
