Hi...

I would like to announce a Chicken based project I have been working
on called "thumbtribes". You can read more about the project at

In summary, it is a location-aware communication application which
attempts to minimise the amount of data sent over a phone's internet
connection. The location data is encoded using my packedobjects egg.
The communication data is simply IRC. Currently, the client is
designed as a plugin for XChat so it should work on Linux and Mac OS X
systems. I hope to start work on a native (GTK+) interface for an
OpenMoko phone as soon as I get my hands on one. The project is in its
infancy and there are number of areas I need some help. The website is
the biggest "to do" component right now.

The basic aim of the project is a simple client on the phone that
lists users in your defined proximity who meet certain criteria or
preferences you specified on the website (ideas welcome). You will
have the ability to retrieve their profile and message them etc. The
overall goal is that the client runs on low cost smart phones and is
not expensive to run. So far, in terms of embedded devices, I have run
the client on a Nokia 770 with Bluetooth GPS over my phones GPRS
connection.
