I doubt there will be any solution forthcoming.  My impression when we
worked out this deal (Paul did the negotiating with RMS; I just heard
about it) was that he was fairly adamant about it.

So my plan has been to get enough of AWT working that RMS' objection
(that we would be undercutting TVT's business) would be rendered moot.
Then we could reopen the discussion.  But to get there we have to
reimplement a significant chunk of code.

BTW it isn't Red Hat writing AWT.  So far, Red Hat hasn't paid for any
of our AWT implementation (well, maybe a trivial class or two -- and
of course they pay indirectly all the time since I use their machine).
The work has all been done on a volunteer basis, mostly by Rolf
Rasmussen, Bryce McKinlay, and me.  This might change in the future,
but it is very hard to predict.
