Hi,
I downloaded the Mandrake 10.1 Community Edition images and tried it with
Dazuko 2.0.4. As with Mandrake 10.0 (and Fedora Core 2), capabilities have
been built into the kernel. Running `./configure' with Dazuko 2.0.4 this is
properly detected.
Recompiling the kernel is pretty easy... usually. But Mandrake has some
issues with their default kernel settings.
With 10.0 there was the problem that security modules would not be installed
after running `make modules_install`.
With 10.1 there is the problem that the modules are installed in
/lib/modules/2.6.8.1-10mdkcustom but the kernel goes by the original name of
2.6.8.1-10mdksmp. The easiest solution is to rename the "custom" modules
directory to the name of the original directory.
People who are familiar with compiling kernels will not have a problem with
this. People who are not will most likely be confused.
Hopefully for Mandrake 10.2 they will "clean up" their kernel defaults. Not
only should Capabilities be built as a module by default, but the process of
compiling new kernels should also be fixed so that users only have to do the
standard:
# make menuconfig
# make
# make modules_install
# make install
If anyone has access to Mandrake members or bug lists, it would be helpful
to point these things out to them.
