In that case you might have a very old version of ddd. First check it and compare with the latest ddd version. In general I try, first, to install the latest version which many has already solved the issue i am having with an old version

In any case run first ./configure just to check its error messages. Also read the config.log file and find the section where it tries to set CXX, maybe  you can find clues there.
