It provides a unified way to make user information public to
subsystems that do not have to know about PostgreSQL. The two
current uses are the e-mail subsystem (e-mail forwarding, for
<username>@users.sourceforge.<yourdomain> addresses) and account
management (for SSH access, including CVS over SSH access). Other
uses are possible, for instance you could couple Sourceforge with some
other system (your company time-tracking system, for instance),
although external to Sourceforge for now.
