OK

first of all, I was pretty confused ... the "run command" in KDE  
somehow fetches denemo 0.7.5 which I did not thought was installed in  
the first place.

Sorry about that.  You can call me a moron, just don't tell me.

using denemo 0.7.9 in KDE works a lot better.  I can now make  
selections with the "select" method and with the arrows.

the only difference left is that selections won't extend with a mouse  
drag.
