You are trying to compile an old version. In the newer versions you
would just get a warning and some icons would be missing. The fix
involves running an executable called gdk-pixbuf-loaders piping the
output to file called
/etc/gtk-2.0/gdk-pixbuf.loaders
(on my system ... it would seem)

Actually I've noticed there is something called
/usr/lib/libgtk2.0-0/update-gdkpixbuf-loaders
on my system, which maybe does the piping.

But please use new sources.
