Hi,

I tried to build Denemo on Mac OS X, using MacPorts for the used libraries.
First thing is: there is no libtoolize, the binary is called glibtoolize,
maybe you'll add something to your autogen.sh. 
Second one: there is no malloc.h 

file.c:36:40: error: malloc.h: No such file or directory

stdlib.h should be used instead (see
http://developer.apple.com/technotes/tn2002/tn2071.html). I remember something
like HAVE_MALLOC_H determined by autoconf, but this is not used in your
project.
