This is indeed a great improvment.
Please don't forget to provide a way to 
a) other than the "small"-text written in the staff directly make it visible 
somewhere that it is activated
b) deactivate the feature.

Probably on/off checkboxes would be nicer for options like this?

How about a way to automatically include options like this to the 
staff-preferences window?
