You can make a script that just inserts a graphic into the measure.

I think you could make a specialist version of the insert tie command (a
script of course) which would insert the character "~" into the LilyPond
(and even place a graphic between the notes, tie shaped), then it will
print out tied notes, but Denemo, not seeing the ~ will play each note
separately. If you don't want the attacck in the MIDI playback you would
need to use an instrument (.pat file or whatever it is) that has no
attack or decay, so that the notes would simply join up.
