Well I put Debian Squeeze into my /etc/apt/sources.list but synaptic
didn't then offer me earlier versions of libevince. I downloaded
the .deb package for libevince-dev 2.2 and did a dpkg -i on it and it
declared that it needed a dependency. There then seemed to be a chain of
dependencies. I didn't follow down these - I'm not sure if that is a
useful way to go.

Can someone suggest what we might usefully do?
