This is my fault. I should have backed up before doing a git pull. The problem has something to do with the Makefile and wget. It works fine on my ubuntu system but not on debian for some reason. I found a solution for this like two years ago and I put it in the Makefile (I believe).

Actually this is not the problem. I created a new mxe directory with a fresh clone on the same system and it worked fine. I am going to merge my files into it and replace the old directory. Not sure exactly what was causing it but don't have the time to investigate. I am off to a workshop on Alexander technique!

I forgot all about this and it was overwritten by the git pull. Technically I did a git stash, git pull, git stash pop.  I have built on ubuntu and uploaded the results to the same location. I will do this until I find the solution.
http://www.denemo.org/~jjbenham/mxe/denemo.zip should work now.

Follow-up Comment #1:

This is being actively worked on. So far there is a working version at
http://www.denemo.org/~jjbenham/mxe/denemo.zip
which only lacks some (not crucial) icons ...

(Well, it was yesterday's build that I tested - it is being updated every
day).
