Yep, I am running CVS HEAD of FreeBSD, ie "6.0 prerelease".

I think it's a general thing - that is done for other stuff, eg tclsh.
In general if you have a program you should ask for the version you expect.

IMO if the auto* developers and Linux distro makers had this attitude then 
auto* would be in a less parlous state because it would be forced to coexist 
with other versions of itself.

Yeah, "fixing" the bootstrap script isn't really a problem for me so I'll 
probably just keep a local diff.

Yeah, I usually just type it manually if I get that far ;)
