Subject: [Discuss-gnuradio] Need an gnuradio companion script that works with rtl_sdr for a data receiver front end.

Hello list, this is Lee McKusick asking for a gnuradio example script.

I need a pointer or email message with a well commented gnuradio
companion script that uses the rtl_sdr radio receiver dongle and does
some of the processing to extract data from the bursty signals
transmitted by an electronic gas meter at 462 mega hertz and also may
help capture the data emitted by a road toll transponder at 915 mega
hertz.

I am interested in doing real time home energy usage management by
capturing the smart electricity meter data transmissions. The local
utility company has a 3 day processing delay and it only posts hourly
values.

I know I my TerraTec dongle is picking up the radio signals mentioned
because multimode.py shows me the data. I need now to use gnuradio
companion, analyze the signals and then implement storage or message
sending for the next part of the project.

I have been doing trials in gnuradio companion for about a week.
Basically I am getting caught where a plausible receiver design simply
does nothing. I don't know enough to troubleshoot what I have. Attempts
to connect an FFT or Oscilloscope module are not working. Easier to
learn from and study a working script.

Reading the toll transponder opens the possibility to doing ride
sharing in near real time. Ride sharing could cut vehicle caused carbon
dioxide emissions by up to 40% without buying any new cars and it could
save me the trouble of burning $8 in cash every single work day driving
to a 5.5 hour job 24 miles away.

        Cordially yours, Lee
