I am getting an odd error when trying to change fonts in GNUMail:

/usr/GNUstep/System/Library/Bundles/libgnustep-xgps.bundle/ix86/linux-gnu/gnu-gnu-gnu/libgnustep-xgps:
undefined symbol: XftTextExtentsUtf8
My X server information:
XFree86 Version 4.0.2 / X Window System
The problem appeared after an update and a complete rebuild of GNUstep from
scratch.
