I added -lgnustep-gui in GNUmakefile.preamble and made a call ala

int main(int argc, STR *argv, STR *envp)
{
  // var declarations

  [NSApplication sharedApplication];

  // my stuff

  return EXIT_SUCCESS;
}

And bingo! It works.
However, I *know* I tried that before, and it didn't work then.
