Because lsp appears incapable of basic Encap features? ;-) For example, it
cannot install multiple versions of the same package and select between
them, as far as I can tell.

I don't think anything in the Encap *package format spec* requires you to
use symlinks but ICBW. lsp has one feature over Encap, because it does some
dependency handling.
I don't think either is particularly more complex than the other. Just
annoyingly incompatible.
Another question: why xml? Does gnustep-base have an xml parser hidden in
there?
