I've not seen it addressed so here it is:

 Menu of GWorkspace.app / Info / Preference;
   In the Preference panel select in the pop-up menu the page "Shelf";
     Move the arrows to set the width used for icon titles (Title Width);
   In the Preference panel select in the pop-up menu the page "Browser";
     Move the arrow to set the width used for browser columns (Columns Width);
   In the Preference panel select in the pop-up menu the page "Icon View";
     Move the arrows to set the width used for icon titles (Icon Width);
   Close the Preference panel.
