Window manager can hang, too. :) Either GNustep or window manager can handle window drawing. But if window manager draw the window, GNUstep x11 backend has to talk to different window manager differently in order to make it work on various window manager. And the result is that none of them are perfectly. Therefore you got a not perfect window manager and a complicated backend for these window managers. Anyway, window drawing is not a big problem right now. It only matters in look-and-feel.
