I had the same problem few days ago, I think it's a xml2-config bug introduced by Mac OS X 10.3.4 but I'm not sure. The solution is to replace xml2-config in /usr/bin with a previous version (like the one from 10.3.3).
Here is a xm2-config version which should work :
