Hallo all,

Well, I don't know if this is going to help, but I personally hate
WindowMaker! I'm currently using a combination of a bunch of stuff that
work pretty well together.

Still using WindowMaker here (only X11 Wm I've ever really used) and it
works fine for us. Indeed it's the one I recommend to people comming to
Unix for the first time. But I gbet the feeling it's niot being worked on
anymore, and there may come a time when it needs to be ditched.

I just tried enlightenment and am very dissapointed. I can reproduce the same problem here I have with Window Maker. Starting an CPU intensive operation in one application (e.g. generating some XML output; takes 10s) blocks the whole desktop. I cannot switch to another application until the operation has finished. :-(

Is this cooperative multi-tasking from the old MacOS 9/Windows 3.11 or what? Moreover, if I have AppA activated and on the way (with the mouse) from a window to the menu over the window of another application (no click performed), this application gets activated. I guess this should be a feature of enlightenment, but this is rather annoying on a GNUstep desktop. Is anyone actually using enlightenment with GNUstep?

I will go and give beryl a try, but I have not much hope that I get this compiled under Solaris. :-(

Regards,

  Andreas
