Well, why is it that your view and that of the maintainers doesn't align?

It could be that your aim is just to produce something that works for you ... in which case there's always going to be a problem, but if you are interested in code that matches the MacOS-X behavior and doesn't break behaviors for other people, there should be no difficulty convincing maintainers.

Of course, maintainers tend to be a bit conservative (trying to ensure that changes don't break things, except perhaps if they are changes to improve MacOS-X compatibility and the things they break can be fixed to use the MacOS-X behavior), so they need to be able to understand patches, which means that they need small and/or simple patches. Remember, they may not be as clever as you (and are almost certainly less familiar with the patched code than you), and probably don't have the spare time to sort out complex patches.

Is it really so dreadful/dispiriting to be asked to break patches down into smaller, readily digestible versions?
