There is no problem to use mariadb with dolibarr.
It is already working great.
On the install page of dolibarr, which "driver" did you select ? (mysql or mysqli ?)

1. sice, in my opignon, mysql 5 is old, I try to use mariadb 10.0.6

I work with mac os 10.10.3 and mamp. I have install mariadb 10.6.6 with the howmbrew software

brew install mariadb

The line to start the mariadeb client is

mysql mysql -uroot -pRootPassworde
and

mysqld

to run the server

Problem : (with dolibarr delelop version) I get this error on dolibarr installation on the step 2 page3.

Echec de la connection au serveur de base de données. Vérifier que Mysql est bien lancé (dans la plupart des cas, vous pouvez le lancer depuis la ligne de commande par la commande 'sudo /etc/init.d/mysql start').
La connexion ayant échoué, les paramètres du serveur ou du super utilisateur sont peut-être incorrects.

Revenez en arrière et corrigez les paramètres invalides.

How Could I fix this bug ?

Where is the dolibarr mysql connection line ?

2. Can I use a hsqldb (libreoffice *.odb) with dolibar ?

3. Why use mysql and not mariadb for dolibarr ?
